JUVEDERM® Dermal Filler in Arcadia
Conveniently located to serve Arcadia, CA
Deepening lines and wrinkles are an unfortunate part of the aging process. Though they can occur anywhere on the face, deep lines are especially common at the smile lines (or parentheses around the mouth) and marionette lines. Other common locations include the brow and forehead, around the lips, and the cheeks. Fortunately, Juvederm® is an effective treatment for this aging process.
Juvederm XC®, which contains lidocaine to reduce discomfort during treatment, is a smooth consistency gel that produces natural-appearing, significant results. The primary active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which is also in products such as Restylane® and Perlane®. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in young, healthy skin, though its content decreases as we age. And though fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane® are commonly used alone for facial rejuvenation or as part of the liquid facelift, hyaluronic acid has other uses as well. It can be used to correct local defects or as part of nonsurgical rhinoplasty (nasal reshaping). It can also be used to enhance the lips or even for depressed acne.
Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane® are all FDA-approved medications that should be administered only by qualified health professionals. At the [primary_practice], Dr. Chow personally performs all such treatments. As a board-certified surgeon with fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, he takes particular care in the treatment of his patients.

How to Prepare for Fillers
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers – Also Known As Juvederm® (Restylane®, Perlane®)
Fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane® have become popular non-surgical, office-based procedures in recent years. They provide instant results that can last up to a year, and play an important role in rejuvenation of the face.
Each of these fillers is comprised of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule. It acts like a sponge to bind and absorb water in our skin, becoming much like an internal moisturizer. This, in turn, creates volume in the face. Unfortunately, as we age, the hyaluronic acid content in our skin decreases, contributing to the development of lines and wrinkles. Fortunately, we have found a way to correct this problem with fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane®.
Before the Procedure
One of the wonderful things about fillers is that minimal advance preparation is required. You can receive treatment on the day of your first consultation. You may follow your normal daily routine prior to coming into the office. That said, you should only have Juvederm®, Restylane®, or Perlane® administered by a qualified health care professional. At the Chow Center, all fillers treatments are performed by Dr. Chow personally.
Despite the minimal preparation required for hyaluronic acid fillers, you can minimize the possibility of bruising by avoiding any aspirin or aspirin containing products. This also includes similar medications, such as ibuprofen, Alleve®, Motrin®, and most over the counter analgesic pain medications other than acetominophen (Tylenol®). If you take prescription medications that thin your blood, including (but not limited to) Coumadin® (warfarin) and Plavix®, you should be aware that you are more likely to have bruising from your injections. If you smoke, your likelihood of bruising is also increased. If you bruise easily, you may choose to take a natural supplement called Arnica Montanna. This has been associated with a decreased incidence of bruising.
If you wear makeup on a daily basis, you should plan to have some with you so that you can touch up any makeup that is wiped away from your face in order to clean that area for the procedure. If you exercise on a daily basis, you may choose to work out prior to your treatment at the Chow Center, since additional swelling may occur with strenuous physical activity immediately following your treatment.
The Procedure
In general, administration of Juvederm®, Restylane®, or Perlane® takes less than fifteen minutes. Prior to the injection, most patients have a topical anesthetic (numbing cream) applied to the areas to be treated. The most common areas to be treated include the naso-labial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, lines in and around the lips, the lips themselves (lip enhancement), and the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty). This will then be removed and a cold gel pack applied to the treatment area shortly before injection. Alcohol or antiseptic will be used to clean the skin just prior to your treatment.
Frequently, this procedure is performed as part of the Liquid Facelift, along with Botox®, Radiesse®, or Sculptra® Aesthetic.

After Getting Fillers
Almost everyone is able to leave the office minutes after treatment. Many patients choose to return to work, go shopping, have lunch, attend social engagements (dinners, lunches, parties, etc.), or are on the way home. If you wear makeup, you can reapply or touch up make up before you leave the Chow Center.
You will be provided with an ice pack that can be reused. When you get home, you can alternate this ice pack with a cloth-wrapped ice pack to treated areas for a few minutes at a time during the first 24 hours after treatment. This will help to reduce any swelling that may occur.
